As with most, I didn’t anticipate Airbnb to grow to the enormous brand that it is today.
In those curious early years of the platform (before Airbnb took over the world), I timidly listed my downtown Toronto apartment for rent while away on holiday. Why not make some extra cash while I explore other Airbnbs?
It made economic sense to my business-minded brain. Plus, it re-ignited an excitement of travel (a feeling that had smothered quickly as a salesperson lodging in blur of corporate hotels).
Well… let me tell you, it didn’t take long to get hooked! I was officially a “Host” and a “Guest” (and blissfully happy in both roles).
So, long before I started manageAir officially in 2014, I was successfully managing my own rental on Airbnb. Those were the early years of the “sharing economy” where trial and error was the norm. Sadly, there were no “experts” to turn to. I had to continue perfecting my own system for maximizing bookings.
As Airbnb gained traction, it didn’t take long for friends to ask help in listing their properties online. A few had an extra room in their home to host. Some owned cottages outside the city that remained un-used for certain weeks. Others were “snowbirds” who were away for months at a time - the ideal profile of a profitable host.
The birth of manageAir followed. Curious journalists interviewed my business for national publications. I became Toronto’s first full-service rental management company specializing in Airbnb properties. Airbnb was growing too… with hiccups.
Airbnb’s extraordinary success has not been welcomed everywhere. Horror guest stories. Districts legislating additional taxes. Property associations restricting short-term rentals. I’ve experienced it all.
If there’s a way I can personally help you avoid the pitfalls (especially when starting out), I will. My staff is truly extraordinary. We understand the art of hospitality.
Customer expectations are always changing, especially as Airbnb adds new properties and services. With the general Airbnb game getting stronger worldwide, you must set yourself apart from the competition. I’m going to guide you all the way.
Airbnb hosts are getting creative throughout the platform, and guest expectations are equally increasing. Not only will we meet these expectations together, we will make sure to devise new methods to surprise and please your guests.
I welcome a chat to discover the possibilities with your property!
